Course Overview
This course responds to the desire for scientific literacy in the acupuncture community. Practitioners will be able to communicate their knowledge of healing in a way that opens the Western ear and dissolves resistance. Several lines of scientific inquiry on the acupuncture channels are explored, and evidence for the neurovascular theory of the channels is proposed. The final part of the course delves into the exact mechanisms of acupuncture by looking at how the brain interprets signals coming from the nervous system. Focus is given to a few papers that illustrate mechanisms clearly. Students will learn to describe three ways acupuncture exerts its effects on the body that they can use to win the trust of all potential clients.
Class Breakdown
1st hour: Acupuncture in mainstream medical settings, resistance to acupuncture and the anti-CAM agenda, what we can do to break down resistance.
2nd hour: Neurovascular theory of channels and points.
3rd hour: Summary of my paper in the form of 3 ways acupuncture works on the cardiovascular system and some brain science.

Clare Fowley, with her background of many years of scientific studies in biophysics, not only helps to close this gap. In a very pleasant and entertaining way, she convinced me that the beauty and “magic” of Chinese Medicine is by no means compromised or undermined by that.
