The Effects of Laser Acupuncture for Chronic Central Type Facial Paralysis
A free version of this class (no certificate and no CEUs) is available here.
What you will learn
- Introduces facial paralysis from both western and Chinese medicine points of view.
- Highlights the alternative approach of LA in treating long-term facial paralysis.
- Demonstrates the integration of LA in the treatment of Peripheral nerve disease.
Bell’s palsy is the most frequent cause of unilateral peripheral facial palsy, a common condition that a third of patients can have inadequate recovery and subsequent physical and social impairments.
In preclinical and clinical evidence, low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has shown the ability to regenerate peripheral nerves. Laser acupuncture (LA) is a non-invasive, pain-free method to stimulate traditional acupuncture points with non-thermal laser irradiation.
This case report describes the feasibility of this innovative treatment in a patient with a 12-year history of traumatic facial palsy and severe sequelae.
